RandLAN #18 Test Run 5-6th of November (Confirmed)

RandLAN #18 will be held on the 5-6th of November at the Wangaratta Girl Guide

OK Details (i was going to do this sooner but have been sick)

Time
The LAN will start on Saturday the 6th of November at 2pm and end on Sunday sometime before lunch
If you wish to show up to the lan before 2PM you will not be permitted to setup your computer (Unless admins state the setup is complete)

Price
The LAN Entry will be $10 for the event (Flat Rate This time)

FOOD
There will be Pizza Orders on the night at 8:30PM
Soft drink will be sold at $1 a can and V will be sold at $2 a can
Water Will be sold at 50c a bottel
More drinks will be added
There will also be other snack food for sale

Prizes
We don't really have any prizes for this lan as we have not really organized it well

Comps
There will be comps at the LAN but we are still working on organizing them

A new lan sounds interetsting but im working that weeknd so I wont be able to attend, also just out of intertest (as depending on the answer i might attend based on whats being played) what are we all playing these days?

BF3 launched tonight but i seriously doubt it will be LANABLE as it requires a netconnection and a browser just to launch single player - im not kidding you need to go to http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/ and log in with origin running in the background to load single player!

CODMw3 is going that way as well, with elite requiring a browser to log into your COD elite account before you can even play single player, and diablo 3 is going to require a always on net connection to play single player as well.

And dont get me started on STARCRAFT 2 and DOW 2 so RTS is also DEAD IN THE WATER when it comes to lanning (no dedicated lan function, requires online server connection to play multiplayer).

So yeah, kind of dont see the point anymore unless you  have a idea on what to play as all new games are kind of no go's

Very true, theres already "unpack and play" single player editiosn fo bf3 everywhere on torrent sites, but there all sans multiplayer in every aspect and i do not see hwo "pro" modders will every figure out how to make a dedictad lan server for it.

Also has anyone even seen a working multiplayer "cracked" lan game since about 2 generations of pc games ago? Im not nay saying here i m generally interested.

All the ones that games work seem to be incredably old (supcom etc) or are indie titles (and if you crack indie titles your really broke ).

And what blizzard are doing with diablo 3 is vial as far as locked out content and no local play goes, speaking of blizzard; anyone got starcraft 2 working "lan" yet?

Well yeah, so game ppls, I will turn up If the games that are being played are good and recent, I can bring a few ppls with me IF the games are recent (all they play is next gen fps), what are we playing and what CAN we play besides quake 3 gen stuff and MW1/SUP COM?


Also RAGE has no LAN either, play via online servers or no multiplayer which is really bad, its a ID game after all (the grandfathers company behind fps as a genre).

As for other games I know most(if not all) of the new stuff is crap anyway these days

If a game requires a internet connection to login then you can use lan that is fine by me since i have had  working internet connection at the lan for a long time now

Yes luke i totally understand that you have steam log in and net access at the lan but ALL new games HAVE NO LAN FUNCTIONALITY!

So unless your going to let EVERYONE at the lan connect to a online servers just so we can play a local game routed through the net, then the fact that we can log in is pointless.

Also "all new games" are not crap, alot of them are WAY more fun then the POS we keep playing and basically im sick of playing the same old shite (wipeout, SUPCOM etc)

I really want to play FEAR 3, BF3, Black Ops, Red Orchestra 2, RAGE, PayDay, Section 8: Prejudice, Warhammer 40k - Space Marine, Starcraft 2, DOW 2 - Retribution, Duke Nukem Forever, New AVP (All 100% legit no pirated editions)

And i can play these games online with a freaking huge community and no lag via my unlimited 8 Meg internet connection, so unless the lan can match the above listing why would I or anyone whos into new games come?

Also none of the above games support lan and all require you to play via a online server and support absolutely no local play.

So once again I ask WHAT ARE/CAN WE PLAYING THESE DAYS AT THE LAN!

And MW3 will not have lan, it has a function call party play that lets a "group of people" route there connectuion to the game server as a pack (ie everyone connects to one local player via lan, local player is the link to the net and online server) but it requires cod ELITE, which is there free/paid for more features online game management page and SHITELOADS of bandwidth.

Any "LAN" without at least a 8 meg internet connection and 200GB of dl (used for cacheing game serves exclusively - the shep lan I freqent goes through about 350GB of data per lan just when it comes server sign ins and data send back and forth to online serves as you play) or the event is DEAD in the water.

personally i go to the lan not just for the gaming. i go because i get to socialize with other like minded people. its a social event not just gaming.

Meh, its all about the gaming for me. Good people lead to good games/fun multiplayer, so people attending the lan that arent absolute aholes makes it better; but socializing aint that high on my list of stuff to do that ill pack a car full of tech and drive from Benalla to Wang just to do it (as well as pay entry, food costs, fuel etc).

Also the 4 other players I know who would be interested live further away from wang then I do (tungamah & st.james) and they ONLY attend the Shep Lan with me because it gives them a chance to play current games in multiplayer modes on mass in a friendly enviroment.

And as for leeching goes (which is the other main reason ppls attend a lan) Meh once again as I have a unlimited internet connection and a usenet account so i seriously doubt theres anything anyone has there that I want.

So once again with great vigour and perpetuity I enunciate, WHAT IS BEING PLAYED AT THE LAN THESE DAYS!

All I want is a list of games that are  DEFENTLY going to be played, and if theres no new games and thusly no forward progression then I dont see myself or my other lan mates coming and I also forsee a slow painful death for the event as a whole as people buy Hardc0re gaming rigs with water cooling and Crossfire/SLI and have to play QUAKE 3 gen games (which I seriously doubt anyone cares about but me but im just trying to deem if its worthy of my own time/effort/expense).

And with it being only a week away a list soonish would be really apreciated.

you know what, you dont want to come dont come. Seriously LAN's as a format have been obsolete since the invention of hamachi, and good for you with you unl. 8meg, some of us have to put up with what we can get, often thats not much. The lan offers much for those who want to share data or games or just socialise(in case you dont notice most of us nerd dont do that often)
but if you want to play the latest games with "fully hardcore players bru" buy an xbox. cause thats all thats come out this last 2 years, shitty console-port crap.
also there is NOTHING wrong with older games, most new games look like they are built on engines older than Farcry2 and Crysis 1

We dont run this just to play the latest an greatest games we run a lan to provide a Social environment for like-minded people share data and news, show off our big shiny pc's, an occasionally we do get a good game competion going... we dont earn money from this, so please, dont like it, dont come, dont have a 2-post long bitch about how shit our lan is OK?

- Mount & Blade: Warband or With Fire and Sword
- Universe at War: Earth Assault


But no one does, because no one can buy games or bother having them installed/up-to-date. No there's nothing with DX11, because DX11 games are allergic to LAN /sarcasm.


@Azza; how dare you call BF3 a console port! *angey fayce* But yes, the LAN is indeed a social gathering as well as for gaming, though multiplayer gaming generally is both anyway.

Rainbow Six is the most touchy fucking game ever, half the people at the lan cant get the game to work, so why would they buy it?
now heres one... the unreal series, YOU crusader used to bag UT3 out constantly to the point that when i did run a server NO ONE PLAYED cept me an alvios

Mount & Blade ive never even looked at so i really dont know.
Universe at War is pretty clunky and hard to control with a camera thats shoved right up any large units arse, also uses Games for Windows LIVE for multiplayer

ANYWAY these things happen. oh and there crysis2 that had multiplayer and its "DX11" looked like shit imho vs farcry2 but what do i know
